The war-torn cities of Europe along with the jungles of the South Pacific never looked so excellent: Through the between-level loading screens for the actual in-mission visuals, World at War looks well comparable to Modern Warfare. Not that I'm surprised, given that they share the same engine -- which flexes its power to display lush jungles and destroyed cities, in contrast to shantytowns inside a fictional Middle Eastern country. And even though this is actually the best-looking The second world war shooter I've ever played, beautiful settings are a small percentage of what makes the action so striking.

Firstly, World at War produces in life elements of WWII that its predecessors left mostly untouched. While enemies died en masse in past installments, dismemberment and gore were essentially nonexistent. That's don't the situation -- here, legs are severed, men cry outside in agony since they reach for lost parts of the body, and gouts of blood fly as bullets pierce flesh. World at War portrays the horror of WWII better than any other time, also it even discovers as almost an excessive amount of occasionally...before you keep in mind that real servicemen actually witnessed similar events. A number of other moments stand out beyond basic combat gore; shocking executions (men being set on fire -- ouch), Japanese ambushes, and brutal hand-to-hand battles remind you that WWII wasn't only a glorious victory to the Allies, but in addition an awful event that viciously ended many young lives. I have found World at War's portrayal mostly respectful (if your little repetitive), and it does a good job of showing precisely how evil -- and heroic -- humans might be.
