F.E.A.R. is actually an acronym for First Encounter Assault Recon, which is basically the top military squad that deals primarily while using paranormal. As a part of said team, your character is given the job of tracking down and eliminating Paxton Kettel, an effective psychic that has a tendency to snack on the faces of his fallen foes (he claims that it lets him see their memories). You'll spend almost all of the game chasing him through military complexes, revealing the reality by finding laptops and phones that piece everything together, along with via in-game cutscenes (that basically don't explain a lot). While F.E.A.R.'s core story is basically run-of-the-mill in terms of gaming plots, the game makes up correctly by making a world through which danger lurks around every corner. Actually, it isn't really so much that there's any danger actually there, it's the fact that it could be there that makes the hairs in your neck stand up. For instance, you will find there's moment at the start of the game if you turn to get onto a ladder, and Alma (this is the creepy little girl's name) is standing there and searching at you. I jumped about six inches from my chair, every time I obtained on a ladder following that, I found my body tensing up in preparation for the worst.

In most cases, F.E.A.R. is a pretty run-of-the-mill shooter, albeit one that looks great. You operate through a bunch of corridors, blowing away any resistance which you may come across, slowly unraveling the mystery along the way. Since most of the game is shrouded in darkness, you'll quickly arrive at rely on your trusty headlamp, although it'll run out of juice if you're not careful. Thankfully, it recharges pretty quickly. You may also interact with your environment in several ways, from opening doors to flipping switches to setting traps by blasting fire extinguishers.
