The Sniper Elite series is not really for anyone. It presents a slower, more tactical side to shooters in comparison to the popular quick twitch Call of Duty or Battlefield games. Although the series does have its fans.

The earlier Sniper Elite often felt stifled, to the stage where it played enjoy it was on rails along with the focus was solely around the shooting mechanics. Considering that Rebellion deserves credit for making a more interesting, almost open world environment in Sniper Elite III. The final result is really a more polished, approachable title - assuming how the gritty, methodically paced nature of your game suits you.

The tale still involves the incredibly uninteresting and dry Karl Fairburne, that has traded in adventures in Europe for North Africa now around. Thankfully Rebellion realises that the real star of the show is the actual sniping mechanics, though the deeply voiced, one-note character may be the protagonist. Unlike the past entry, where player was often along to the ride in something of the colour-by-numbers affair, now around you will find optional side quests and multiple methods to approach and finish all of Karl's missions.

This extra flexibility affords a better feeling of ownership and control in the events that occur in Sniper Elite III. The gameplay is mostly focused on those long ranged kills, but stealth, mines and pistols are also part of the equation, as one would expect. It is still very limited, although the AI here is better than the last iteration of Snipe Elite. A game title this way must not produce a viable strategy away from shooting an enemy inside the hip and running away. If you do that the enemies will indeed exhibit the kind of short-term memory loss that served as the foundation for Christopher Nolan's popular movie Momento, but in Sniper Elite III. This is not an exaggeration as the enemies will simply stroll back to their post after being shot, having both forgotten your existence and the fact they're bleeding out all over the place, even though it sounds silly.

And would have succeeded in creating a gritty, atmospheric world around Karl as he stalks his prey, were it not for how ill-equipped the AI is in handling snipers, this above point is worth mentioning because Sniper Elite III tries very hard. Nevertheless, the enemy AI does the essentials good enough. To take advantage of the environment as well by timing his shots when something like the roar of an airplane can drown out the gunfire noise, though karl needs to use not only visual cover. If they do hear gunfire, the enemy troops are very adept at pinpointing Karl's location.

Two of the most interesting aspects to Sniper Elite III would be the actual sniping mechanics as well as the popularised slow motion, close-up kills. The previous is extremely good, with a multitude of settings that could enable just as much automatic help as you wish. I would suggest dialling these down or off completely. The kills are far more dramatic and rewarding when actual skill was completely responsible for the kill, even though certainly this raises the difficulty and makes Sniper Elite III more difficult to learn.
