Billed because the "antidote" to the modern shooter, Bulletstorm is obviously on a better level of ridiculousness than, say, the decision of Duty franchise or perhaps the recent reboot of Medal of Honor. Even its sister series, Gears of War, that is over-the-top in its own right, can't maintain Bulletstorm's old school, hyper masculine tendencies. And yet, it doesn't go quite far enough.

The storyplot revolves around Grayson's obsession with taking down his former commanding officer Serrano for a past deception that caused Grayson and the covert operations unit, Dead Echo, to assassinate various innocent citizens within the pretense that they were enemies from the state. Of course, upon discovering that fact, Grayson declares that he'll have his revenge. Sound too serious? It truly is.

All the game required to was a simple excuse to go on a rampage, not really a deep motivation to appease some type of indignant revenge desire. For any game ostensibly based on absurd violence and "killing with skill", the degree of the plot seems like a misstep. Granted, the action has some absolutely gorgeous visuals, especially when the environments throw open and you can feel the colorful world fully. Escaping an enormous, runaway excavation wheel while riding a speeding train is definitely one of the most impressive-looking setpieces in modern shooters.
