In Onimusha, you play as Samanosuke Akechi, a masterless samurai focused on destroying a gaggle of demons that have kidnapped a princess. To aid Samanosuke in their quest, several ogres has given him an awesome gauntlet that devours the souls of the creatures he kills, providing him with special powers. The story and exactly how it's told might be the weakest links in Onimusha. The premise is clichéd by both US and Japanese standards, the dialogue is either badly translated or just poorly written from the beginning, and the voice work behind the in-game cutscenes does not complement using the characters' lip movements, driving them to resemble scenes from your shoddily dubbed movie.

The end result doesn't inspire as numerous laughs because original Resident Evil, yet it's very disappointing, especially in light with the game's otherwise high production values.The most noticeable could well be the game's graphics. Undeniably, Onimusha is the greatest looking bet on its type yet. It's got probably the most varied and impressive rendered backgrounds we have seen in any game thus far, probably the most incredible CG sequences seen since Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and in-game story sequences that are a lot better than the CG sequences you will find in other games.

The characters were designed with great style, and so they become more active through excellent motion-capturing that you'll notice in watching their basic movements in addition to their facial expressions. Numerous graphical effects complement the overall game also, like enemies exploding into bloody smoke after they die or the green glow that trails the eyes in the zombie ninja. The graphics may not be as much of a general achievement as those involved with, say, Shenmue, but they are inside same general class.
